Project Details
The County Road 17 corridor is the front door into eastern Elkhart County from Michigan and the Indiana Toll Road. Despite being a primary northsouth connector in the community, it did not convey a sense of arrival or community pride. The project was developed to design public improvements capable of creating a memorable landmark for the millions of travelers along the Indiana Toll Road and an authentic brand experience at the Exit 96 Gateway.
Abonmarche created a set of designs which stood apart from the standard overpass bridges along the Indiana Toll Road. Instead, the design presented an image matching the energy embodied in the Vibrant Communities movement. The bridge improvements use a combination of architectural features, lighting, and decorative hardscapes to communicate the values of placemaking at a significant gateway into the community. Once completed, this project will add that significant aesthetic impact previously missing from this corridor.
