Safety and fun for pets and people
Abonmarche’s role in this project included Master Plan development, creation of specifications, and construction administration for a 10-acre park in the City of Kalamazoo. Of the area that consists of open space, woodlands and a wooded ravine, approximately three acres of the site was dedicated as a place for dogs to enjoy with their guardians. Abonmarche worked closely with the Dog Park Committee to develop a master plan for the dog park, which was located closest to the woodland.
The dog park is adjacent to a landscaped entrance plaza that features donor brick insets and an accessible walkway and parking lot. Other features of the dog park include a shade pavilion with accessible walkways, drinking fountains, agility course features, dog waste stations, seating areas, and landscaping. There is also a small dog area and a double gate system with key card activation. A passive recreation area with walkways, accessible picnic tables, benches, and landscaping is located closest to the residential area. The park contains an off-street parking lot plus a rain garden.
The park opened to the public in the spring of 2011.
