Project Details

The Portage Parks Department had been maintaining its Prairie-Duneland Trail for over 15 years with no structured guidance. In 2012, a new trail (Iron Horse Trail) was set to be built. The superintendent needed a well thought-out manual to document the two trails and create two separate manuals to assist the staff with overall maintenance and operations. Abonmarche was contracted to assess both trails’ design drawings and then create an inventory of all improvements.

Our team then field assessed the Prairie-Duneland Trail to document any issues we encountered, grouped into immediate, short-term, or long-term maintenance plans. We utilized the Iron Horse Trail design to document the planned improvements and created both manuals on-budget and on-schedule. In collaborating closely with the staff at City of Portage Parks, we were able to set the department on a path for future success in its trails operation and maintenance.
