Project Details
Abonmarche led the architectural and engineering design for Porter County Public Library System’s new library garden, which is located on a one-acre parcel adjacent to the Portage Library in Portage, IN.
The library garden concept stems from the notion that the space can be utilized for programming during library hours and extended for use after hours. The park-like design incorporates a central quadrangle lawn area to view performances on the pavilion stage, which doubles as a shade structure under typical conditions. The fully ADA design provides areas for group areas, reading nooks, and multiple shaded seating experiences
Opportunities for a variety of individual and group events abound. The library garden extends the library’s programmatic spaces to the outdoors. The park is incorporated within the larger City of Portage Park System and is linked by walking trails and dedicated routes. Allocation for food trucks further provides amenities to allow for enhanced gathering and use of this regional attraction.
