Abonmarche and the City of Bronson partnered to complete a concurrent update of the master plan and zoning ordinance. This allowed for a deep connection between the two documents and ensure that the future development of the City match the goals and desires of the community. The master plan and zoning ordinance was developed to support the existing small-town character, its strong main street downtown charm, and address potential future industrial development.
Master planning included multiple public engagement sessions, online surveys, a project website, and meetings with an internal project team to develop a plan that reflects the desires and values of the community. The plan includes many engaging graphic elements, charts and maps with a modern style. The plan meets multiple criteria for the Michigan Redevelopment Ready Communities program.
Concurrently with the master plan process, the zoning ordinance was updated to reflect the values and goals of the master plan. The
reimagined ordinance reduced cross referencing, organization issues, and incorporated multiple graphic elements to represent development standards. The zoning ordinance update also achieved many of the criteria of the Michigan Redevelopment Ready Communities program. During this process it was determined that a unified development ordinance incorporating the Sign, Mobile Home, Subdivision, and the Zoning Ordinances was the best fit for the community.
