Project Details
Imagine being able to ride your bike safely from Chicago all the way to New Buffalo or to spend a sunny afternoon hiking from Michigan City to New Buffalo and back. Abonmarche has lead the planning and design of the portion of this project in the State of Michigan.
Working with numerous project partners including the Southwest Michigan Planning Commission, Berrien County Road Department, the City of New Buffalo, New Buffalo Township and the Michigan Department of Transportation, Abonmarche was able to manage the planning process through multiple jurisdictions as well as negotiating a miles plus long easement with Amtrak that was necessary for the trail’s development.
Our design work included almost 4 miles of asphalt and concrete trails, a boardwalk to traverse a deep ravine, utility relocations and the design of the Michigan trailhead in downtown New Buffalo. Construction of the trail is scheduled to begin in 2023 and be completed in 2024.
