Project Details
The City of Valparaiso, Indiana, is transforming public recreation with the new Flounder & Friends Skatepark, a modern, inclusive space shaped through extensive community input. The skatepark is placed in the central area of Fairgrounds Park for its visibility and walkability and is surrounded by amenities including a walking track, softball fields, playground, and a Life Trails System for adults 50 plus. A task force made up of Valpo Parks, design and engineering teams, and local skate enthusiasts guided the project, with renowned X Games Course Designer and Valparaiso native Dug Ketterman leading the design.
Abonmarche provided site engineering and surveying services for the 15,000 plus square foot park, which features a fish shaped bowl, musical manual pad, mini ramp, and additional elements, all accessible to skateboards, bikes, scooters, skates, and adaptive wheelchairs. Nearly $1 million was raised through community efforts, and since its opening in November 2023 the park has become a regional destination. With future expansion in mind, Flounder & Friends Skatepark continues to foster connection, activity, and inclusive fun for all.
