Project Details

This project was a direct result of clean water state revolving fund (CWSRF), and drinking water state revolving fund (DWSRF) project plans.  A project plan was submitted to the State to address aging infrastructure within the City of South Haven’s downtown central business district. Abonmarche performed survey, engineering, landscape architecture, and grant management services for this project. Utility design plans were merged with previously approved streetscape concept plans. The streetscape concept plans were finalized and completed as part of the “placemaking” portion of this project. The streetscape design provides a welcoming, softer feel to this downtown area, which is predominately hard surface. A living green live wall, trash containers, seat benches, decorative lighting, and public wi-fi system was added to the project to enhance the public user experience.

The goal was accomplished by holding several public involvement meetings to gather community feedback. Once settled on a design, we worked with several funding sources to help fund the project for the City. This project included 5 sources of funding, including CWSRF & DWSRF low interest loans through the State of Michigan, Michigan Economic Development  Corporation (MEDC) grant, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), and local funds from the City of South Haven.
