Project Details
Abonmarche has worked with the city of South Haven to develop a master plan for Black River Park. The park houses the municipal boat launch, marina, and boat trailer parking facility. The facility also has an outdated fish cleaning station, a restroom facility, and a wastewater treatment plant with an adjacent dredge spoils site.
The City enlisted Abonmarche to address various issues with the site’s existing configuration. Because no stacking lane is present, boat trailers waiting to turn in to the boat launch block access to the marina. The fish cleaning station is in poor condition and an unfavorable location within the park. The site has numerous vehicle-pedestrian conflict points, lacks a sense of connectivity, and the kayak launch is no more than a worn area adjacent to the river.
Abonmarche worked with the city, participating in numerous input sessions to develop a master plan addressing the park’s. The resulting master plan improves vehicular access to and from the marina, adding a separate stacking lane entrance into the boat launch facility. Several discussions were held to determine the best locations for a future fish cleaning station accessible to all fishermen, pedestrian accessible routes, and various site amenities. A new kayak launch, fishing pier, restroom improvements, an additional parking area, and skid pier renovations have been made possible by grant applications developed by Abonmarche.
