Whittaker Street provides access to New Buffalo’s first-class beach.  The street had long been overlooked and was in need of major infrastructure repairs.

Peshawbestown Marina Market Analysis

New marina development assessment

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians is assessing the viability of developing a new marina in Peshawbestown, in scenic Leland County, that would act as a community economic driver and an enhancement for its Leelanau Sands Casino. The Grand Traverse Band  retained Abonmarche’s services to complete a market study and feasibility analysis of the project and its impact on the Tribe and the community.

Allegan Riverfront Development

Creating a sense of place

Abonmarche worked with the City of Allegan to develop the City’s under-used riverfront area. The riverfront area is located between picturesque buildings and the Kalamazoo River and can be seen from M-89, one of the main corridors into Allegan, making it an important potential draw for visitors driving through the City.

During the planning stages of the project, Abonmarche staff hosted and attended many public meetings, coordinating with City staff to gather area residents’ ideas for the project and to answer their questions.

Fairmount Dog Park

Safety and fun for pets and people

Abonmarche’s role in this project included Master Plan development, creation of specifications, and construction administration for a 10-acre park in the City of Kalamazoo. Of the area that consists of open space, woodlands and a wooded ravine, approximately three acres of the site was dedicated as a place for dogs to enjoy with their guardians.  Abonmarche worked closely with the Dog Park Committee to develop a master plan for the dog park, which was located closest to the woodland.

Universal accessibility

In order to ensure that users of all abilities can enjoy Manistee County’s water resources, the Explore the Shores program facilitated the design and construction of five site-specific recreational facilities including this one at Arthur Street, where there was an existing boat launch.

Williams Street Reconstruction & Streetscape

Riverfront street improvements in southwestern Michigan

Williams Street runs along the riverfront and intersects with Phoenix Street, the corridor through downtown South Haven.  As this lakefront community has grown and developed, Williams Street has become a more important part of the visitor’s experience. Abonmarche designed and administered construction for streetscape, roadway, and utility improvements on Williams Street from Eagle Street to Dyckman Road to improve the aesthetic and functional experience of this part of downtown.

Spencer Park

Park revitalized as community gathering place

Abonmarche provided planning and engineering services to the Town of DeMotte to assist in the long term growth and sustainability of the town. These services included evaluations of existing utilities, identification of potential residential, commercial and industrial growth areas, zoning assistance, development of a Downtown Improvement Plan, review and input on the Parks Master Plan, studies of pedestrian connectivity, and funding research and procurement to support the planned improvements.

Niles Riverfront Trail

Visibility and safety for trail users

The City of Niles used Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund money to design and construct 2 miles of Riverfront Park Trail to improve connectivity among parks, the river, and downtown. The trail was relocated from a flood plain onto a railroad right-of-way. A segment crossing a major route into the city was rebuilt to improve visibility and safety for trail users. Abonmarche’s role in the project included topographic surveying and staking, design and construction administration, and floodplain permitting to protect the prairie trillium.

City Plaza

Creative solutions for a new development

City Plaza was a new restaurant development that encompassed a total of 20 acres on both sides of University Drive in Mishawaka, Indiana. Abonmarche was contracted to complete the site design, sewer and water design, and prepare design plans for all entrances and exits onto the property. The project required the development of creative solutions to grading issues, off-site drainage problems and relocation of utilities. Abonmarche worked with the City and utility company to find new locations for the power transformers that had to be relocated, while working to keep costs within budget.

Arts District Beautification

For a number of years, the Arts District has been considered one of Benton Harbor’s greatest opportunities for revitalization within the heart of this economically and demographically depressed region. The project, part of the State of Michigan’s “Cool Cities” initiative, encompasses six city blocks, which were characterized by deteriorating infrastructure, crumbling buildings and a number of environmentally sensitive areas.
