Ignition Park

Collaboration for total site redevelopment

Abonmarche worked with the City of South Bend Engineering and Community Development Departments along with the site developer, Great Lakes Capital Development, to redevelop an old Studebaker manufacturing site. This project included a sewer separation, road reconstruction and new water main, sidewalk, street lighting and trees on Franklin Street. It also included a new concrete roadway with pervious paver blocks and a subsurface detention bed under the parallel parking lanes.

Silver Beach Pizza Addition

An restaurant expansion becomes one of the best views in town

Silver Beach Pizza, a popular restaurant located between Silver Beach and downtown St. Joseph, needed to expand. The restaurant frequently saw long lines of customers waiting for an open table, especially during the summer. But the restaurant is situated in a small site with some unusual space constraints. The restaurant is also the location of the Amtrak train station, and so railroad tracks run along the restaurant’s western side. A bluff rises up on the restaurant’s eastern side.

Cultivate Brewery

A modern brewery that ties the indoors and outdoors into one relaxation space

Cultivate Brewing Company was working with an architect to build their brewery in Berrien Springs, Michigan, but the project wasn’t going well. So they brought Abonmarche into the project, requiring a quick turn-around on construction and permit drawings.

Boys and Girls Club Youth Clubhouse

State-of-the-art facilities that encourage learning and fun

Abonmarche provided complete architectural, engineering and site design services for this 28,000-square-foot facility.

The building was designed to “LEED” energy, air quality, and water conserving standards. The building features a geothermal heating system, eliminating the need for natural gas to the building. A “wellness center” space is provided in the building to serve the health needs of the club’s members. A dedicated room for the First Tee program is also included.

Allegan Riverfront Development

Creating a sense of place

Abonmarche worked with the City of Allegan to develop the City’s under-used riverfront area. The riverfront area is located between picturesque buildings and the Kalamazoo River and can be seen from M-89, one of the main corridors into Allegan, making it an important potential draw for visitors driving through the City.

During the planning stages of the project, Abonmarche staff hosted and attended many public meetings, coordinating with City staff to gather area residents’ ideas for the project and to answer their questions.

Benton Harbor Water Treatment Plant

Art Deco plant gets $13 million in upgrades & expansion

Abonmarche secured financing, designed and managed the modernization and renovations to the Benton Harbor Water Filtration Plant.  The renovated plant eliminates outdated clarifier technology by incorporating new inclined plate settlers for sediment removal.

Athletic Fields

Brand new sports facilities for School City East Chicago

Abonmarche designed and managed construction of a track and synthetic turf soccer field at the East Chicago Central High School and a multi-purpose field at the Block Middle School. The projects included field events, landscaping, field lighting, sewer and water service and drainage to match campus design.  Abonmarche staff led the project from initial community meetings and concept development through design and permitting, as well as construction inspection and oversight.  As a result of this project, East Chicago High School was able to host their first home track meet in 25 years on May

Boys & Girls Club Teen Center

A place for children to learn, play, and grow

Abonmarche provided complete design services for two new facilities for the Boys & Girls Club of Benton Harbor.  The Joel E. Smilow Teen Center opened in June of 2012 and serves teens in grades 9–12.  The new, state-of-the-art Teen Center is located across the street from the Benton Harbor High School.  Originally planned as a renovation of an existing facility, the generosity of donors enabled a brand new structure to be built to the exact specifications of the organization. The 20,000 sq. ft. facility includes first-class technology and academic support programs, an 8,000 sq. ft.

Silver Beach

Interactive Fountain, Children's Museum, Outdoor Cafe, Green Features

The $20 million Silver Beach amusement area is a project that was several years in the making. Abonmarche staff were involved in the project since its inception, helping to create the site Master Plan, assisting with grant procurement and developing the design of the buildings and site. The project includes an interactive fountain, a new Silver Beach Carousel, Shadowland Ballroom, Curious Kids’ Museum annex and an old-fashioned boardwalk. The project, which is directly adjacent to Lake Michigan, also includes a commercial serving kitchen for a banquet hall and outdoor cafe.

Lake Township Public Safety Building

Multi-functional, sustainable design

This 22,000 square foot Police and Fire Station facility was designed to meet the public safety needs of the Lake and Baroda Township communities for 50 years, consolidating the fire and police departments of both townships, and has expansion capacities built-in for that time. The design features sustainable elements including a geothermal heating/cooling system. The new building was constructed across the street from the former Lake Township Fire Station, which is now used as a Medic 1 ambulance center.
