Project Details

The Leland marina and boathouse sits adjacent the community’s Historic Fishtown area. While the community only has a year round population of approximately 400 people, tens of thousands of people visit the community on a summer weekend. The facility serves as a respite for boaters using the marina as well as public restrooms for visitors to Fishtown.

To ensure that the facility felt appropriate to the small waterfront community but flexible to serve the demands of tourism season, the community turned to Abonmarche to assist in ensuring the project’s success. Abonmarche was contracted to complete a Master Plan and renovation of this facility. This included the design of a 4,000-square-foot Boaters’ Services Building that contained public restrooms, showers, a lounge area, and a screened-in porch. The site design integrated a complex traffic plan that was able to accommodate the flow of automobile traffic (trucks towing boats), and pedestrian traffic from downtown Leland and the adjacent Fishtown area.
