Project Details
Abonmarche worked with the city of Allegan to redevelop an underutilized municipal parking lot along the community’s riverfront. A new riverfront plaza area is now located between the picturesque historic buildings of downtown and the Kalamazoo River. During the planning stages of the project, our team facilitated many public meetings to solicit community input and answer any questions about the project.
We assisted Allegan in securing almost $1 million in grant funding for the riverfront project. Visitors can access the riverfront plaza area via the downtown sidewalks, by car, or the universally accessible canoe and kayak launch area. Here, paddlers on the Kalamazoo River may stop by the plaza to eat and shop.
The redeveloped riverfront has become a popular gathering place for recreation and entertainment in the community, hosting many festivals and events throughout the year. The city’s investment has prompted significant real estate investment, creating several new businesses and jobs
