NEW BUFFALO ELEMENTARY GETS NEW PARKING LOT

The students at New Buffalo Elementary School started the new school year with a new parking lot.  The lot was configured around a large old tree towards the center of the property.  The designs were created to preserve the tree and use it as a focal point while maximizing parking and improving bus traffic.

IMPROVED CLAY STREET OPENS

Whittaker Street is more high profile, but several projects have been completed in New Buffalo recently.  Clay Street has also been improved including the addition of bicycle markers.

WALLACE AVENUE COMPLETED

The Wallace Avenue project was recently completed.  Located near St. Joseph High School, Abonmarche worked hard to make sure the road was open before the start of school.

WESTNEDGE PROJECT MAKING PROGRESS

Abonmarche has been working on a major improvement project to Westnedge Avenue in Portage.  Recently, casings were installed for the mast arms for traffic signals.  Westnedge in one of the busiest streets in Southwest Michigan and Abonmarche has worked diligently to keep traffic flowing during constration.

UNITED FEDERAL CREDIT UNION OPENS SOUTH BEND BRANCH

With Abonmarche's help, United Federal Credit Union held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening on the new Ireland Road branch.  A ribbon cutting for the Edison Lake branch will be held August 29 at 5:00 pm.  United Federal just contracted with Abonmarche on two more branches for the South Bend market.

SPLASH PAD GROUND BREAKING IN ALLEGAN

Positively Allegan, the City of Allegan, Perrigo, and the Perrigo Charitable Foundation broke ground for a splash pad as a continuation of Perrigo Riverfront Plaza.  Equipped with a band stage, a zip line, and other amenities in a park-like setting on the riverfront in downtown Allegan, Perrigo Riverfront Plaza is already a destination point.  The splash pad will be another feature to draw residents and visitors alike to the plaza.

Curbs and gutters are being poured on Westnedge Avenue in the heart of Portage.  Crews have also been pouring concrete foundations for traffic signal mast arms at Portage Crossings.

DEFYING GRAVITY

Sometimes gravity makes life more difficult.  Case in point, when wastewater must travel from a lower elevation to a higher one to get to a treatment plant, gravity presents a problem.  One way to solve the problem is excessive excavation to dig deeper and deeper trenches to change elevation.  Not only is the environment disrupted, digging deeper results in longer runs of pipe which translates into higher costs.
