| Abonmarche Wins Civil Engineering Award |
Abonmarche is excited to announce that the company has received the 2008 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award for the Benton Harbor Arts District Beautification project. The annual award, presented by the Southwest Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers, recognizes a civil engineering project in the Southwest Michigan area that contributes to the well-being of people and communities, impacts the physical environment, and shows resourcefulness in planning and solving design challenges. The Arts District project, which encompasses six city blocks in downtown Benton Harbor, involved extensive infrastructure improvements. These included replacing deteriorating underground utilities, burying overhead utility lines, installing energy efficient LED lighting, constructing new roads, sidewalks and bike paths, and landscaping the area with trees and perennials. The $2.3 million project, which was completed on June 20, 2008, was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Abonmarche, Cornerstone Alliance, U.S. House Representative Fred Upton, State Representative John Proos, the EPA, MDOT, Southwest Michigan Commission and the City of Benton Harbor. The success of the project has opened the door for future funding for additional improvement projects throughout the City of Benton Harbor. |
